Seongsu-dong is not just Seoul's coolest neighborhood — it is also where idols go when they want to feel like normal people for an hour. The area's industrial-chic aesthetic, relative anonymity compared to Gangnam, and genuinely excellent coffee have made it a magnet for K-Pop stars looking for a low-key spot to unwind. Here are five cafes where your favorite idols have actually been spotted — and where you might just turn a corner and find yourself ordering next to one.

1. Onion Seongsu — The Industrial Cathedral

Onion is the undisputed king of Seongsu-dong cafes, and it has the idol sightings to match. Housed in a former metalworks factory with soaring concrete ceilings, exposed brick, and a deliberately unfinished aesthetic, Onion serves what many consider the best specialty coffee in Seoul. The space is large enough that idols can blend in — and they do. RM of BTS has been spotted here multiple times, usually buried in a book in the corner near the window. BLACKPINK's Jennie has also been photographed leaving with an iced americano.

  • Signature: Pandoro (a cloud-like Korean-style bread) and their house blend americano
  • Best time to visit: Weekday mornings (10-11 AM) for the best chance of a quiet moment
  • What to order: Pandoro + Iced Vanilla Latte
  • Idol sightings: RM (BTS), Jennie (BLACKPINK), Karina (aespa)
  • Address: 8 Achasan-ro 9-gil, Seongsu-dong

2. Cafe Bora — The Purple Paradise

Famous for its signature purple taro soft serve, Cafe Bora is a visual experience as much as a culinary one. The entire space is designed in shades of lavender and violet, with minimalist Korean ceramics and a tranquil garden view. It is a favorite of female idols who want a photogenic spot that feels private. TWICE's Nayeon and Sana have both posted Instagram stories from here, and Red Velvet's Joy has been spotted enjoying the signature soft serve on the garden terrace.

  • Signature: Purple Taro Soft Serve (the most Instagrammed dessert in Seongsu)
  • Best time to visit: Afternoon (2-4 PM) when the garden light is perfect
  • What to order: Taro Soft Serve + Purple Sweet Potato Latte
  • Idol sightings: Nayeon & Sana (TWICE), Joy (Red Velvet), Yuna (ITZY)
  • Address: 45 Seongsuil-ro, Seongsu-dong

3. Daelim Warehouse — The Cultural Anchor

Daelim Warehouse is more than a cafe — it is a multi-use cultural space that hosts art exhibitions, pop-up shops, and intimate live performances. The building itself is a converted shoe factory, and the owners have preserved much of the original industrial character while adding warm wood accents and contemporary art installations. It is a favorite of the more artistically inclined idols — SUGA of BTS has mentioned it in interviews, and NCT's Taeyong has been seen browsing the art books in the attached gallery space.

  • Signature: Seasonal single-origin pour-over and the attached art gallery
  • Best time to visit: Weekend afternoons when exhibitions are open
  • What to order: Seasonal Pour-Over + Gallery Admission
  • Idol sightings: SUGA (BTS), Taeyong (NCT), Yeonjun (TXT)
  • Address: 78 Seongsui-ro, Seongsu-dong

4. Cafe Comma — The Bookstore Hybrid

Cafe Comma is a bookstore-cafe hybrid that has become a second home for Seoul's creative class — and for idols who want to disappear into a book for a few hours. The space is quiet, the lighting is warm, and the book selection is genuinely excellent (with a strong English-language section). It is the kind of place where an idol can sit for two hours without being bothered. Jungkook of BTS has been spotted here with a stack of photography books, and IU is known to visit the original location when she is in the neighborhood.

  • Signature: Literary atmosphere and the best English book selection in Seongsu
  • Best time to visit: Weekday evenings (6-8 PM) when the creative crowd gathers
  • What to order: Earl Grey Latte + Any book from the recommendation shelf
  • Idol sightings: Jungkook (BTS), IU, Soobin (TXT), Hanni (NewJeans)
  • Address: 12 Seongsu-ro 7-gil, Seongsu-dong

5. Anthracite Coffee — The Roaster's Temple

Anthracite is where Seoul's coffee obsessives go to worship. The roastery-cafe occupies a converted textile factory and features some of the most serious coffee equipment in the city — including a vintage Probat roaster that is practically a museum piece. The coffee is exceptional, the space is vast and echoey, and the crowd is serious about their beans. It is a favorite of idols who are genuinely into coffee culture (as opposed to just needing a caffeine fix). EXO's Kai has posted about their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, and BTS's V has been spotted here during solo outings.

  • Signature: Single-origin pour-overs roasted on-site and the vintage Probat roaster
  • Best time to visit: Early morning (8-9 AM) before the crowds arrive
  • What to order: Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Pour-Over + Butter Croissant
  • Idol sightings: Kai (EXO), V (BTS), Mingyu (SEVENTEEN), Jisoo (BLACKPINK)
  • Address: 32 Seongsuil-ro 4-gil, Seongsu-dong

“Seongsu-dong is the one place in Seoul where idols can just be people. The cafes here do not treat them like celebrities — and that is exactly why they keep coming back.”

A final note on etiquette: if you do spot an idol, be respectful. A polite nod is fine. Asking for a photo while they are trying to enjoy coffee is not. The reason idols love these cafes is because they are treated like regular customers. Do not be the fan who ruins that for everyone else.
