HBO has officially announced a partnership with Korean production studio Studio Dragon to develop a premium adaptation of the hit webtoon "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call." The project, which will be produced as a limited series, represents one of the most significant investments by an American premium cable network in Korean intellectual property.

From Webtoon to Premium Television

"The Trauma Code" follows a genius trauma surgeon with an unconventional personality who transforms a struggling hospital's emergency department into the best in the country. The webtoon, which has accumulated over 3 billion reads on Naver Webtoon, is beloved for its meticulous medical accuracy and complex character dynamics.

  • 8-episode limited series format
  • Co-produced by HBO and Studio Dragon
  • International cast with Korean lead actor
  • Medical consultants from Seoul National University Hospital
  • Filming begins September 2026

“Korean storytelling has a unique ability to make you feel everything at once — the humor, the heartbreak, the triumph. That's what drew us to this project.”

The series will be filmed at a real Seoul hospital to ensure authenticity.

The deal is valued at approximately $80 million — making it the largest single investment in a Korean webtoon adaptation by a Western studio. Industry observers see this as a watershed moment that will accelerate the pipeline of Korean IP into global premium television.
